Customs Police
Italy's Customs Police (GdF), whose origins date back to 1774, is an inspective police force operating under the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
The main responsibility undertaken by Guardia di Finanza is aimed at countering tax evasion and elusion, as well as preventing and prosecuting economic-financial violations.
They are also responsible for customs activities such as prevention, surveillance, and control measures aimed at safeguarding the financial and economic interests of the European Union in an international scenario.
All of their responsibilities must take into account the demands of a global trade environment as well as the rapid growth of financial and commercial relationships supported by an information technology (IT) infrastructure that must be protected against fraudulent events that could damage the EC budget.
